About Us

The SafeWorld Foundation has been newly formed in order to help encourage and provide widely available and appropriate counselling, recovery, rehabilitation and support in our communities.

The SafeWorld Foundation has been founded by a group of concerned individuals who are survivors of child abuse, are family and friends of survivors, are professionals working with survivors or are supporters of our collective aim of increased care and support. We feel that we need an improved level of care, compassion and consideration to others within our communities and that if recovery, care and support were available to all who needed or wanted, this would help to create a healthier and better community.

We feel that as a community we have a priority duty of care to the people who have suffered the worst as victims of childhood abuse and trauma.

It is a recognised fact that people who have suffered abuse and trauma in childhood are much more likely to suffer emotional and psychological problems of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, fear, anxiety, sadness, shame, anger, low self esteem, helplessness, isolation, loneliness amongst others. These problems left unaddressed can lead to further problems with depressive illnesses, drink, drug or other addictions, mental illness, self harm, suicide, criminal or anti social behaviour, chaotic or dysfunctional behaviour, eating disorders, marital breakdown and more. Research and statistics clearly show that many people with some of the above issues are survivors of abuse and trauma.

There is a great need for specialised counselling, recovery and support to help prevent survivors of abuse and trauma from falling into these damaging patterns of behaviour, while there is also a great need to help those who do fall into this self destructive cycle, to achieve recovery.
